1 Chronicles 14 (December 18)

                                                         Where Is God?

“…for God has gone out before you…”

There are times in our lives, when the pain is more intense and we feel alone and abandoned.  We cry unto God, but there is no response; we seek the Lord, but somehow we don’t find him.

Our God, however, never abandons us.  Jesus promised that he would be with us always and, “to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).  If Christ lives in our hearts, how can he ever abandon us?

What really happens sometimes is that our Lord goes “before” or ahead of us and we stay behind.  Temptations, trials and distractions, lure us away from the straight path and we lose sight of God.  While we are entangled in our difficult present, or dwelling on the painful past, we forget to look ahead, to our bright future with Christ.

God goes before us in every sense of the word.  He is ahead of us all in position, vision and in time.  He is the Lord of time and King of eternity—he is waiting for us in the future.

I know you have experienced great disillusions and that sometimes God seems to ignore us in our struggles.  We cannot understand the “love” that allows such calamities to pounce against our soul and we cry like Jesus, “My God, why have you forsaken me!” (Matthew 27:46).

God will never abandon us, but sometimes he will go ahead of us to prepare our way.  Don’t be left behind; follow him closely.
