Immanuel
“…and shall name him Immanuel.”
The virgin birth of Christ is one of the fundamental doctrines of evangelical Christians. You and I can differ as far as the date of his birth, (some say that it was December 25, and others disagree), but we must never disagree in respect to the reality, place and especially about the manner of his birth.
If Christ had not been born from a virgin, he would not have been the perfect man, because every human being is born in sin. If the Lord Jesus Christ were not perfect, his death on the cross would most certainly have been in vain. If Christ would have died in vain, humanity would be lost and without hope.
This is why we must believe in the virginal and miraculous birth of Christ. He came as God into this world and became a man through the Incarnation; he did all this, so he could die on the cross for our sins.
Immanuel means “God is with us.” Christ is God, God the Son—which visited humanity almost two thousand years ago. Certainly God came to our world, or better yet, to His world and became one of us. His Incarnation made his Sacrifice a possibility, because only a man could actually die. His divinity made our salvation a certainty, because only God can save.
His miracles were wonderful; His words, light and life; His acts, full of love and sanctity; His death defeated death; and His resurrection opened the doors for eternal life to all those that believe in Him
Immanuel, God with us!
