1 Samuel 24 (September 17)

                                                         Prayer for Pastors

“…for he is the Lord’s anointed.”

In more than one occasion I have witnessed attacks (verbal and physical) against pastors.  This should never happen; specially among brothers and sisters in the Lord.  Just thinking about it, brings me to my knees.  Would you accompany me in this prayer?

“Dear Lord Jesus, you know that I love you with all my heart.  I want to love you more each day, and honor your anointed leaders.

Lord help me imitate your servants and follow their steps as they follow you.  Give me wisdom in order to have a healthy regard for their leadership.  Some of my brothers and sisters lift their pastors so high, as to almost make them “gods.”  Others disregard their teaching and abuse them.

Jesus, I desire not to call them “Reverends”, but to treat them with respect—not as my buddies, but as my spiritual mentors and leaders.  Help me to love your servants and to pray for them daily, because heavy is the burden of the ministry.

Please Lord; forgive me for having spoken behind their backs and for my less-than-noble thoughts towards them on some occasions.  But Lord I have never been a hypocrite and I don’t want to start now.  Grant me wisdom and love to approach them with whatever complaint that it may arise.

Finally Lord Jesus, I pray that your people will understand these things. How could we say that we love you, and dishonor your servants? You have blessed and called these men, and have brought them to our lives with one purpose: To teach us to be like Christ and obey the Father in everything. Help us to listen and learn. Amen”
