Fear and Waiting
“…the Lord takes pleasure…”
A Christian’s highest priority is to worship God and please him in everything we do, say and think. However, there are times when we want to please God in our flesh, and with well-intentioned, but misguided human efforts.
The wise pleases the Lord; he fears God and waits on him. Waiting on the Lord is connected to the fear of the Lord, because only those who fear Him will wait on Him. King Saul did not fear God and thus, he never waited on, or for Him.
“And without faith it is impossible to please (or gratify) God,” (Hebrews 11:6), this is what the writer of Hebrews tells us. The men or women of faith fill the heart of God with pure joy, when they love, respect, and wait on Him.
God is not impressed whatsoever with our abilities or talents. What really pleases God is to see a Christian humble himself enough to serve him with a true heart. In other words, if you really want to impress and please God, don’t just tell him that you love him with all your heart. Prove it!
To fear God means to love Him respectfully and to respect Him lovingly. It is to revere his holy name. It is to fear to bring shame to the cause of Christ. The fear of the Lord is following his lead and never acting independently of Him.
To wait on God means to trust and depend on Him for protection and provision.
Therefore, If you do not fear the Lord…
Or wait on him…
It will be impossible to please Him.
