Ecclesiastes 1   (July 25)

                                                    What’s New?

“…there is nothing new under the sun.”

The life of a human being is empty and purposeless without Christ. All those that live “under the sun” are trapped in a world of vanity and fantasies; and their highest goal for their lives is to live “to the fullest” which in effect means, to extract as much pleasure out of life as they possibly can.

While it is certain that humanity has advanced much in some aspects, such as science and technology, the sad tale is that in many areas—including crime and drugs, we have actually gone backwards.

Without Christ, life is a vicious cycle that repeats itself over and over in every new generation. Everything is the same, nothing is new. No matter how many discoveries and advancements mankind creates, they will not be able to break away from the monotony of their Godless existence, nor fill the emptiness in their lives.

Life on this earth is the same every day. People sleep, work, eat, entertain themselves and sin over and over. This cycle has been part of humanity since the days of Creation. In fact, the Bible compares the last days and the Second Coming of Christ with the days of Noah,

“For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark” (Matthew 24:38)

Nevertheless, in Christ all things are new. Every day is a gift from God and his mercies are brand new each morning. Life in Christ is a great adventure full of new and exciting experiences. The discoveries of the scientific community are nothing in comparison with the daily discoveries and experiences we have with Jesus.
